This website has been created in order to give Grade Five teachers access to resources that will enable them to teach digital and design technologies to their class in an engaging and informative way, in alignment with the Australian Curriculum.

In this website you will find two different resources for a grade five class. The resources focus on the use of technologies within a classroom and how students can use these technologies in their everyday life. One resource, App It, is centred around the use of Technologies and the planning and then creation of an application (app), without any cross-curriculum priorities. The other resource, EXcite, not only focuses on the skill students can learn using digital technologies in the classroom, but also focuses on the way certain computer programmes can be used in the classroom to enhance and improve their mathematic skills.

App It will require students to work in small groups of three to four students to create an app. Students at present are familiar with the use of apps in everyday life and it is the belief that by asking students to create something that they know, love and use frequently, students will be engaged with the resource. This is imperative as it is the hope that students will engage with the material and produce work of a high standard.

EXcite will require students to work as a class initially and then move onto individual work as the unit progresses. The initial activity will allow student to refresh their knowledge on graphing, a skill they would have enhanced the previous school year. The assumption made within this resource is that students are fluent with the skills of graphing, and it is the skills that they need for technologies moving forward that is the focus.
